1. What's with the name No Depression?

   There was an old Carter Family song with that name that a band called
   Uncle Tupelo used as the title song of their first big record. Then
   a chat group started on AOL with that name. Then one of the people
   on that list (Grant Alden?) started a magazine with that name in 1995.
   Then Scott Smith newgrouped alt.music.no-depression in 1999.

2. What kind of music is it?

   Punk meets honky-tonk, old weepers meet The Stones,
   countripolitan meets scruff-rock. Also called Americana, Alt-Country
   insurgent country.
